PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for an electrochemical display device capable of displaying a display image of little screen uneveness by a simple driving method, and a display device capable of displaying a display image of little screen uneveness. SOLUTION: The driving method is provided for electrochemical display elements arrayed in a matrix to deposit or solve a metal thereby displaying an image by applying a pixel voltage between electrodes facing each other for a predetermined period of time. The method gradually increases absolute value of the applied pixel voltage with time, the absolute value of the pixel voltage applied at the time of starting metal deposition or solving being the lowest.
