PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope swing detecting device for an elevator for detecting swing of a rope due to shake of a building by fitting an inexpensive rope shake detecting sensor to a rope slip-off stopper guide fitted to a hoisting machine as an earthquake resistant measure against earthquake in place of an expensive long cycle vibration sensor. SOLUTION: This rope swing detecting device for an elevator includes: a hoisting machine 2, around which a rope of an elevator is wound; a deflector wheel 3; a compensation sheave 9; a rope slip-off stopper guide 12 provided closed to an on-car return pulley or the like; and a rope swing detecting sensor 13 provided in the rope slip-off stopper guide or near the same to detect swing of the rope or entanglement of the rope by shake of a building as vibration data.
