PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a rare earth element-added barium thiosilicate phosphor for safely and efficiently manufacturing a rare earth-added Ba<SB>2</SB>SiS<SB>4</SB>phosphor having a high fluorescent luminance. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the rare earth element-added barium thiosilicate phosphor comprising an alkaline earth metal, silicon, sulfur and a rare earth element for imparting fluorescence comprises a first step for synthesizing (1) Ba<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>having a rare earth element uniformly dispersed therein or (2) a mixture of Ba<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>having a rare earth element uniformly dispersed therein, BaCO<SB>3</SB>having a rare earth element uniformly dispersed therein and Ba(NO<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>having Eu uniformly dispersed therein and SiO<SB>2</SB>, and a second step for subjecting Ba<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>having the rare earth element uniformly dispersed therein or the mixture obtained in the first step to a heat treatment in an inert gas containing carbon disulfide to reducingly sulfurize them.
