1523638 Adjustable steering columns TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 22 Dec 1975 [28 Dec 1974] 52504/75 Heading B7H A tiltably adjustable steering column assembly includes a first bracket 21 mounted on a fixed part of the vehicle and pivoted a second bracket 17 fixed to the steering column, a bolt 31 passing through the brackets and having a lock nut 32 at one end and a slidable pressure plate 38 at the other, and a cam member 33 eccentrically mounted at 34 on the bolt to be movable between locked and unlocked positions a flat surface of the cam member being pressed against the pressure plate to urge it towards the brackets and thus prevent relative tilting thereof when in the locked position. An energy absorbing device 14 contains resilient materials and has orifices through which the material may pass if the column is telescoped on collision. |
