<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyphenylene ether which has an improved balance between molding flowability and impact resistance and improved flame-retardant drip resistance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The polyphenylene ether has a repeating unit (A) and repeating unit (B) with a particular chemical structure, wherein a number-average molecular weight Mn is ≥15,000 and ≤30,000, a ratio Mw/Mn of the weight-average molecular weight Mw to the number-average molecular weight Mn is ≥1.8 and ≤3.5, the content of component having a molecular weight of ≤10,000 is <15 mass%, and the content of component having a molecular weight of ≥100,000 is <20 mass%.
