<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeder capable of knowing that a reason of non-feeding is an insufficient attracting force due to electrostatic attraction in advance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: After an endless belt 19 is charged, the endless belt 19 is lowered and the endless belt 19 and a sheet bundle 6 are attracted to each other. After a stand-by time which is a time for attracting the endless belt 19 and the sheet bundle 6 is taken, the endless belt 19 is risen so as to move an uppermost sheet material 6a of the sheet bundle 6 by an attracting force. At that time, a sensor 29 detects whether the attracted sheet material is exfoliated or not, and results are output as detection results, for example, with electric signals. That is to say, after the sensor 29 detects the rising sheet material 6a, unless the sensor 29 detects anything, the sheet material is not exfoliated, so that the insufficient attracting force can be known in advance.
