PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life organic electroluminescent element, in the organic electroluminescent element having a functional organic matter thin film layer formed by a wet film forming method. SOLUTION: This composition for an organic electroluminescent element contains an electric charge transportation material and an organic solvent whose boiling point is 180°C or higher. A halogen concentration (wt.%) in the composition and a solid content concentration (wt.%) in the composition satisfy the following formula (1): [(halogen concentration in composition)/(solid content concentration in composition)]×100≤0.01.
