A food press, for example a garlic press, has a first handle (1) with an accommodation space (5) for the food. The first handle (1) is, via an openable pivot (3), connected to a second handle (2) which has a press plate (4). The food press further has a comminutor unit (6) with a perforated plate which, in a position of use, is adjacent the accommodation space (5) and through which the food is pressed. According to the present invention, the comminutor unit (6) is, at opposing ends, connected via a first and second non-openable pivot (9 and 17, respectively), to the first (1) and the second (2) handles, respectively. The openable pivot (3) includes recesses (15) on the first handle (1) and pins (16), which are insertable in the recesses (15) on the second handle (2).
