PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a transfer unit for a cooling bed are provided to prevent products from colliding with peripheral facilities or separating when loading the products on a cooling bed. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling a transfer unit for a cooling bed comprises a processing data input unit(60), a sensing unit(10), and a control unit(50). The processing data input unit receives information on the length of a rolling product entering a cutter which cuts the rolling product to be transferred to a cooling bed. The sensing unit detects the leading end of the rolling product passed through the cutter. The control unit calculates the point of time when the rolling product arrives at the cooling bed on the basis of the length information of the processing data input unit and the sensing signal of the sensing unit, and temporarily changes the driving time interval of a loading unit according to the point of time when the rolling product arrives at the cooling bed.
