PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to control a light emitting pattern vertically. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure(100) comprises a first conductive semiconductor layer, an active layer, and a second conductive semiconductor layer. A first photonic crystal structure(101) is formed on the light emitting structure. A lower background material is formed on the first photonic crystal structure. A second photonic crystal structure is formed on the lower background material.
