PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To photograph and display a high-quality image of a real object by a simple device configuration.

SOLUTION: There is provided a method of photographing and displaying an image for an image photographing and displaying device having an image display means and a photographing means. The method includes: a step 1 in which a background image is displayed on the image display means; a step 2 in which, with the background image displayed on the image display means, a photographic subject located in front of the image display means is photographed; a step 3 in which a photographic subject region of the photographic subject is discriminated from the other region in the image photographed in the step 2; a step 4 in which the image of the photographic subject is extracted from the image photographed by means of the photographing means based on the discrimination results in the step 3 to create a synthetic image to be displayed on the image display means; and a step 5 in which the synthetic image created in the step 4 is displayed on the image display means.
