<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for use of leptin, leptin analogues and leptin derivatives for treating lipoatrophy patients. <P>SOLUTION: Leptin is effective against conditions of lipodystrophy for both hereditary and acquired forms of the disease. A therapeutically effective amount of leptin can be administered in a variety of ways, including subcutaneously and using gene therapy methods.
