PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visual inspection apparatus capable of detecting a poor appearance of a silver-plated leadframe and a leadframe sealant reliably and simply, and also inspecting the leadframe and the leadframe sealant. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a blue illuminating section for emitting blue light toward a workpiece which is disposed on a prescribed position; a photographing section which is disposed on the same side as the blue illuminating section with respect to the workpiece, and photographs an image of the workpiece; a red illuminating section which is disposed on the same side as the blue illuminating section with respect to the workpiece, and emits red light toward the workpiece; a third illuminating section which is disposed on a position facing the photographing section so as to sandwich the workpiece, and emits light toward the photographing section; and an image processing means which forms a binarized image on the basis of the image of the workpiece, and determines whether a defect is present or absent in the workpiece, on the basis of the binarized image. The image of the workpiece is photographed by the photographing section while switching operations of lighting the blue illuminating section, lighting the red illuminating section and lighting the third illuminating section.
