<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize high-precision positioning control although it is biaxial control. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A surface mounting device that moves a head portion holding an electronic component with a mounted nozzle in XY directions to mount the electronic component on a substrate having been positioned includes left and right bases 31 and 21 where left and right guide rails 35, 25 inclined symmetrically to opposite sides are formed respectively; a left-right symmetrical head portion 13 where left and right guide portions 16 and 15 guided by the left and right rails respectively are formed; and first and second X-axial driving mechanisms 33 and 23 configured to move the left and right bases in right-left directions respectively.
