PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device capable of reducing the number of lamp exchanges and restraining fluctuations of brightness, to provide a lamp unit used for the lighting device, and to provide a projector using the lighting device. SOLUTION: In the lighting device 1 having a plurality of lamp units 100-1, 100-2 respectively including lamps, a voltage detection unit for detecting drive voltage of respective lamps, and a control unit 200 for selecting at least one of lamps 90-1, 90-2, respective lamp units 100-1, 100-2 include memories 92-1, 92-2 for memorizing drive voltage of the lamp detected by the voltage detection unit when lighting-up, and the control unit 200 selects a lamp for lighting up on the basis of the drive voltage of the lamp memorized in the memories 92-1, 92-2.
