PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tandem type image forming apparatus for providing a stable output image for a long time. SOLUTION: This tandem type image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit including an image carrier, a charging means, an exposing means, and a developing means, and forms an image by sequentially stacking monochrome images created by an image forming unit for each color. The charging means of the image forming unit of the monochrome image of the first color when they are stacked sequentially is a corona charging device. Of the charging means of the image forming units of the monochrome images of the second color and later, the charging means corresponding to at least one color is formed of a non-contact roller charging device. The corona charging device of the image forming unit of the monochrome image of the first color includes a shield case having an opening, a corona discharge electrode arranged in the shield case, and a charge grid arranged between the corona discharge electrode and the opening.
