摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly including an electrode catalyst layer suppressing oxidative corrosion of carbon particles used for an electrode catalyst layer on an air electrode side caused by a high potential at the time of starting and stopping, suppressing deteriorations of catalytic activity and electrical conductivity of the electrode catalyst layer, and suppressing deteriorations of power generation characteristics as a result, to provide a method for manufacturing the membrane electrode assembly, and to provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: In the membrane electrode assembly, one of a pair of electrode catalyst layers includes a polymer electrolyte, particles supporting a catalyst material thereon, and a carbon material not supporting the catalyst material thereon. In the one of the pair of the catalyst layers, a ratio of the carbon material not supporting the catalyst material thereon, which is expressed by following expression 1, reduces toward a polymer electrolyte membrane on the inner side from the surface of the electrode catalyst layer on the outer side. The ratio is expressed by the expression 1: (a ratio of carbon material not supporting the catalyst material thereon)=ä(mass of the carbon material not supporting the catalyst material thereon)/(mass of the electrode catalyst layer)}. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
