<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of mounting a component capable of reducing a production control load while improving productivity in mounting of the component in a form requiring component control by unit of feed-reel of a tape feeder. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of mounting the component is intended for carrying out mounting operations by recognizing an LED element 21 via a component mounting mechanism, and a discriminable component 22 from the LED element 21 as original mounting objects are held previously on the downstream side of the LED element 21 at the rear end 18E of the carrier tape 18 by the visual observation of an operator. All the LED elements 21 are extracted completely from one tape feeder, and then the discriminable components 22 are mounted on a substrate according to a regular array. Consequently, the production control load can be reduced in component mounting in the form being capable of easily securing the components replaced with different kinds of LED elements 21 by the visual observation and requiring the component controls in feed-reel units of the tape feeder.
