PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent determination that eyelids of a shooting object are half-closed despite the fact that his/her eyelids are not half-closed because there is individual variation among shooting objects. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is provided with an imaging section 11, a face detecting section 20a, a face recognizing section 20b, an open or closed state detecting section 20c, a classification section 20d, a threshold value setting section 20e, a determination section 20f, and an informing section 20g. The imaging section 11 shoots images of shooting objects and generates the images. The face detecting section 20a detects a face region from the images. The face recognizing section 20b extracts the feature quantity for identifying the face. The open or closed state detecting section 20c detects the open or closed state of eyelids. The classification section 20d classifies images in a first state for each person on the basis of the feature quantity and records them in a memory. The threshold value setting section 20e sets a threshold value which indicates a second state in which eyelids are half-closed compared to the first state for each person. The determination section 20f checks an image in which the open or closed state of the eyelids is an object of determination against an image of the same person in the first state and determines whether the eyelids in the image which is the object of determination are open wider than the second state or not on the basis of the threshold value.
