<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for efficiently drying water-containing organic waste such as high water-containing organic sludge and reducing an operating cost and equipment cost. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A system 1 for drying the water-containing organic waste W1 includes a storage tank 2 for storing the water-containing organic waste W1, a superheated steam generator 3 for generating superheated steam S1, an external heating kiln 4 for drying the waste W1 supplied from the storage tank 2 with superheated steam S2 fed from the superheated steam generator 3, and a superheated steam supplying unit 6 (6b) for drying poorly dried waste W1 by supplying fresh superheated steam S3 to a waste discharging section 4b of the external heating kiln 4 to bring the fresh superheated steam S3 into direct contact with the waste W1. Since the waste W1 is first dried to a certain extent with the superheated steam S2 in the external heating kiln 4 and then the poorly dried waste is completely dried by direct contact with the fresh superheated steam S3 at the waste discharging section 4b, the whole waste W1 can be efficiently dried and the operating cost and equipment cost can be reduced.
