The invention relates to a signaling method for a network system. In this solution, a common analog read signal is fed via a signaling channel to all nodal units ( 104 - 106 ) under control of a control unit ( 100 ). The read signal is modified by modification means ( 200 - 202 ) at each nodal unit ( 104 - 106 ) for identification of the nodal unit ( 104 - 106 ) and data indicating the state of each nodal unit ( 104 - 106 ) is added to the read signal. In the control unit ( 100 ), the state of each nodal unit ( 104 - 106 ) is determined by means of the modification made and the read signal.
