PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polylactic acid fiber free from generation of fluffs and yarn breakage in post-treatment steps such as warping, weaving, and knitting and having excellent processability. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polylactic acid fiber includes: application of a base thread lubricant having a fiber-to-metal static friction coefficient of 0.2-0.35 and a lubricant decomposition evaporation ratio of not more than 10% at 210°C to a surface of the polylactic acid fiber containing a poly-L-lactic acid and a poly-D-lactic acid, drawing of the fiber, heat-setting at not less than 170°C and application of an after-oil containing not less than 70 wt.% of a mineral oil having a viscosity of 5.8-24 mm<SP>2</SP>/s. Preferably, the content of a smoothing agent in the base thread lubricant is 40-70 wt.% and the smoothing agent has a molecular weight of 450-600. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
