The present invention relates to polyacetal-carboxylic acids, more in particular chlorite-oxidized oxyamylose (COAM) for use as a medicine, more in particular for the treatment or prevention of cancer and auto-immune disorders or relates to the use of polyacetal-carboxylic acids for the manufacture of a medicament for the prevention or treatment of cancer or auto-immune disorders. The invention provides also pharmaceutical compositions comprising said polyacetal-carboxylic acids and method of preventing or treating cancer and auto-immune disorders.
