664,317. Gas scrubbers. HUNSLET ENGINE CO., Ltd., and ALCOCK, J. F. June 2, 1950 [Sept. 19, 1949], No. 24030/49. Class 55 (ii). Gas scrubbers, particularly for cleaning engine exhaust gases, comprise a water chamber in which a, swirling or eddy-like flow of water and gases is produced. A. partition b divides the chamber into two compartments which communicate at the lower edge of the partition and a baffle c of inverted semi-cylindrical hemispherical or other dome-like shape with gas outlet orifices d extends from it across one of them. Vanes e and a fine mesh grid fare located within the baffle. In use the pressure of gas admitted through an inlet g depresses the water level in the inlet compartment to the edge of the baffle; in the event of accidental reversal of gas flow all the water can be accommodated in this compartment.
