<p>A pump comprising risers 2 with a lower inlet and an upper outlet 4 and a downpipe 10 with a lower outlet 14 and an upper inlet 12. The risers are coupled to a buoyant fluid introducing means e.g. a compressor to introduce buoyant fluid e.g. air into working fluid in the riser causing working fluid to discharge from the upper riser outlet and to pass into the upper downpipe inlet for delivery to the lower downpipe outlet. The downpipe outlet connects to a filled working fluid reservoir 16 in connection with the lower riser inlet. In this way a relatively high flow rate may be maintained through the riser and downpipe during operation of the pump when buoyant fluid is introduced into the riser. Used for pumped storage.</p> |
