A storage rack for shelves or pallets 2 comprises a plurality of vertical supporting frames 1 each comprising a pair of braced standards 3 and 4 (not shown), having flanges 13, 14 provided with shelf-engaging notches 15 at spaced vertical intervals. The notches form a hook 16 having a surface 17 tapering downwardly and inwardly and the upper edge has a flat surface 18 connected with the inner surface 20 by a curved surface 21. Each of the shelves 2 is composed of a pair of parallel L-shaped angle sections with flanges 25 and having at their ends mounting clips,37 and joined by a plurality of similar angle sections 24 welded at right angles to the said pair. The particular shape of the notches 15 prevents accidental disengagement of the clips 37. An upward force would disengage the clip 37 from the hook 16 but the curved surface 21 will guide the flange 25 into engagement with the flat part 18, preventing further movement, the shelf moving downwards again when the force is removed. In assembling the rack the top and bottom shelves are preferably bolted to the supports 3 and 4 (not shown). Strips 45 are connected in position between the standards 4 at the rear of the rack to limit the rearward movement of the pallets: In a modification the rear supporting standards are made wider thus allowing the rear edge of the shelf to be made narrower so that it will pass between the forward supports 3. The shelves may then be placed in position by the arms of a fork lift truck. |
