<p>According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an oral fluid collection device 1. The oral fluid collection device 1 comprises a handle 2, a swab holder 4, and a swab 3. The swab 3 is in the form of a hollow tube of absorbent material coaxially located about the swab holder 4, such that the swab 3 is supported by the swab holder 4 along the entire length of the swab 3. The device may also comprise an indicator wick 5 with a band of soluble dye, suitable for providing a fluid adequacy indication during use. The wick may be found within a wick channel 12 and may pressed through opening a wick opening due to a projection, such as a ramp, causing the wick 5 to contact the swab 3. The device may include a capillary which passes fluid between the swab and the wick 5. The handle 2 may be substantially transparent, whereas the swab holder 4 may be opaque. The handle 2 and the swab holder 4 may be formed as two parts, connectable to one another in use. Also disclosed is a method of manufacture and a testing kit, incorporating the oral fluid collection device 1.</p> |
