The seat belt retractor (1) has a sensing unit (5) for sensing the seat belt retractor extension length, and a belt shaft (3), which is pivoted in a belt roller frame (4). The sensing unit has a cam disk moved by the rotation of the seat belt shaft. A cam is provided, which is attached to the cam disk in spring-loaded manner. The cam carries out a movement forced by the movement of the cam disk and the position of the cam is sensed by a sensor unit.
