The fabric (1) has a woven base structure (2) to provide dimensional stability for the fabric. A fibrous nonwoven layer (5) is located on the structure, and provides water absorption capacity for the fabric. The layer provides the fabric with a web material contact side on an outer side (6) of the layer, where the outer side faces away from the structure. The layer has a polymer material (7) provided in an area of the outer side. The layer is compressed and smoothed in the area by hot-calendering above melting temperature of the polymer material. An independent claim is also included for a machine for producing and/or processing a fibrous web material.
