PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite filter media structure having excellent filtration efficiency even if having the possibility of suffering mechanical stress.

SOLUTION: A composite filter media structure 10 includes a base substrate 12 that includes a nonwoven fabric substrate formed from a plurality of biocomponent synthetic fibers using a spunbond process. The composite filter media structure 10 includes a nanofiber layer 20 deposited on one side of the base substrate by an electro-blown spinning process. In one aspect, the base substrate 12 and the nanofiber layer 20 are configured to provide at least 85% filtration efficiency measured in accordance with an ASHRAE 52.2-1999 test method.
