<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sphingolipid and a method for producing the lipid. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There are provided the new sphingolipid expressed by general formula (1) and obtained by being extracted from a cultured cell of a marine eukaryotic microorganism, specifically Labyrinthula, more specifically Thraustochytrium aureum, and purifying the extract, and the method for producing the lipid.
