PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an excessive decrease in image quality of a print image while suppressing compressibility of data. SOLUTION: An image processing unit specifies, as specified pixel groups B1, B2, two sets having a predetermined upper-limit number of pixels or below which are arranged successively in a line direction in a two-dimensional array of pixels that object image data represent and in which all the pixel values are included in decision ranges R1, R2 of pixel values determined based upon the values of pixels included in the set of pixels. Values of all the pixels in the specified pixel groups B1, B2 are changed to one value included in the decision ranges R1, R2 to acquire processed image data. Consequently, compressibility of data at a following data compression unit can be improved. Further, the number of pixels in the specified pixel groups B1, B2 is limited to the upper-limit value or below to prevent line-directional variation in contrast of the processed image data from being excessively lost, thereby suppressing an excessive decrease in the image quality of the print image based upon the processed image data.
