<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable fixing device which is obtained at low cost without making into a larger scale, and improves slip and durability of a separation roller while resolving an image failure due to separation performance of a recording medium and fixing belt adhesion defect, and to provide an image forming apparatus mounting the fixing device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device has: a heating roller 51 having a heat generating means 55; a separation roller 53 juxtaposed on a downstream side in a carrying direction of a recording medium S of the heating roller 51; an endless type fixing belt 54 hung over the heating roller 51 and the separation roller 53; and a pressing roller 52 pressed by the heating roller 51 and the separation roller 53 via the fixing belt 54. The tension of the fixing belt 54 is additionally applied as a nip formation pressurizing force between the heating roller 51 and the pressing roller 52, and the tension is imparted by the heating roller 51.
