PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball end mill capable of cutting stably a plastic molding die material or the like from rough working up to finish working, when cutting the plastic molding die material or the like at a high speed and/or with a high cut-in depth, and suitable for cutting a material of high hardness and high rigidity such as the plastic molding die material or the like, in order to solve a cut chip dischargeability and cuttability in the vicinity of a chisel of the ball end mill, and a cutting method using the same. SOLUTION: A chisel end part rake angle is -15 to -45°, a rake face curvature radius in a ball blade tip part is 3% or less of an end mill blade diameter D, and a gash depth is within a range of 0.5-1% of the blade diameter D, in this ball end mill having a substantially hemispherical ball blade, and this cutting method of the ball end mill.
