The manufacture of gears has a milling machine with a profiled gear cutter (8) that is rotated at a controlled rate relative to a gear blank (2). This produces a pinion gear. The milling cutter also has a deburring tool (10) that is brought into contact with the machined pinion gear teeth as a finishing operation.
