METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR WIMAX SUBSCRIBER STATION ACCESSING WIMAX SYSTEM

A method for a World Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) subscriber station (SS) accessing a WiMAX system is provided in the present invention, wherein the WiMAX system coexists with at least one WireIess Local Area Network (WLAN) system in License-Exempt (LE) frequency bands and the WiMAX SS is capable of operating in a WiMAX or WLAN mode. The method includes the following steps: the WiMAX SS accesses a WiMAX Base Station (BS); the WiMAX SS determines whether it is located in the coverage range of a WLAN system within at least one WLAN system or not; a connection is set up between the WiMAX BS and an Access Point (AP) of the WLAN system in which the WiMAX SS is located; the WiMAX SS accesses the AP; service payloads between the WiMAX SS and BS are are transmitted through the AP. The method improves the spectrum efficiency of LE frequency bands effectively and provides high security for data transmission. A WiMAX SS, WiMAX BS and AP of a WLAN system are also provided in the present invention.
