<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for determining the deterioration of an exhaust emission control catalyst capable of instantaneously detecting the deterioration of the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The device for determining the deterioration of the exhaust emission control catalyst is used for determining the deterioration of the oxidation catalyst disposed on an exhaust gas passage. A first temperature detection means detects a temperature at an upstream side of the oxidation catalyst, and a second temperature detection means detects a temperature of the oxidation catalyst at a downstream side of a section where the first temperature detection means detects the temperature. The means for determining deterioration determines the deterioration of the oxidation catalyst if a change of the temperature detected by the second temperature detection means is larger than a change of the temperature detected by the first temperature detection means when an A/F atmosphere of the oxidation catalyst is turned from a rich state to a lean state.
