<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a coloring layer of an optical fiber, in which no air bubbles are mixed in the coloring layer while decreasing the linear velocity of the optical fiber when colored resin is applied to the optical fiber by a coloring die. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to the method of forming a coloring layer on the surface of an optical fiber 1 by applying colored resin thereto using a coloring die 4, wherein the optical fiber 1 is delivered from a delivery bobbin 2. In accordance with the linear velocity of the optical fiber 1, the colored resin is supplied to the coloring die 4 while a resin pressure is controlled. If a reducing acceleration is 10 m/s<SP>2</SP>or higher when a normal linear velocity of the optical fiber is reduced, the resin pressure of the colored resin is controlled so as to be maintained at an equal or higher level than the resin pressure of the normal linear velocity of the optical fiber.
