摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of: suppressing the concentration of compression force acting during stacking work on the end of a reinforcing membrane or its vicinity; and effectively preventing the formation of a gas cross leak passage starting from the concentrated portion of the compression force and passing through a membrane-electrode assembly. <P>SOLUTION: The unit cell is configured by forming a membrane-electrode assembly 4 comprising an electrolyte membrane 1 and catalyst layers 2, 3 coming into contact with both sides of the electrolyte membrane 1 in the narrower area than that of the electrolyte membrane 1, wherein the unit cells are stacked to form the fuel cell. Reinforcing membranes 7A, 7B are interposed between an exposed region 1' in the periphery, which is not covered with the catalyst layers 2, 3, of the electrolyte membrane 1 and gas permeable layers 5, 6, portions of the reinforcing membranes 7A, 7B are laminated on the catalyst layers 2, 3 to form laminated portions 7A', 7B', the laminated portions 7A', 7B' change the thickness in the midway, and the regions 7Ab, 7Bb on the exposed region side are made thicker than regions 7Aa, 7Ba on the catalyst layer center side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
