<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of suppressing transmission of heat to a subject from the distal end of an insertion part. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The endoscope 1 includes an illumination optical system 21 and an imaging device 23 in the distal end 11 of the insertion part 2 to be inserted into the subject, and at least one gas outlet 31 on the outer surface of the distal end 11 for jetting a gas. When an opposed part of the subject approaches the outer surface of the distal end 11, the gas is jetted from the gas outlet 31 to press the opposed part of the subject, so that the opposed part of the subject is separated from the outer surface of the distal end 11.
