PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system capable of reducing the time required for narrowing down a peripheral device of a communication target, and to provide a radio communication apparatus. SOLUTION: In a radio communication system 100, a radio communication apparatus can search for another radio communication apparatus being present in the periphery. A cellular phone 1a, which executes the search, transmits a search packet including a response condition designating a range of an apparatus address to be searched and/or a provision service class and when a cellular phone 1b that receives the search packet meets the response condition included in the search packet, the cellular phone 1b transmits to the cellular phone 1a a response packet including identification data related to the cellular phone 1b. When the cellular phone 1a receives one or more response packets after transmission of the search packet, the cellular phone 1a specifies the cellular phone 1b that becomes a connection candidate based on the identification data included in the received response packets.
