The method involves determining a reference volume intake of brake fluid in a brake cylinder, and recording an actual volume intake of the brake fluid in the brake cylinder. A difference between the actual volume intake and the reference volume intake is calculated. The actual volume intake or difference between the actual volume intake and the reference volume intake is evaluated in a temporary time. A condition of the brake system is determined from the difference. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a condition of a brake system i.e. electrohydraulical brake system, of a motor vehicle i.e. passenger motor vehicle.
