PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coloring matter for forming a recording layer of an optical recording medium excelling in light resistance and recording sensitivity in high-speed recording using blue laser beams.

SOLUTION: The coloring matter for forming the recording layer of the optical recording medium contains a hydrazide chelate complex compound having hydrazide ligand and transition metal cation, represented by formula (1), wherein R1is an aromatic ring group that may have a substituent, or a monovalent non-aromatic ring substituent with the carbon number of 20 or less, R2-R5are aromatic ring groups that may have substituents, or monovalent non-aromatic ring substituents with the carbon number of 20 or less, n is 0 or 1, a ring A is an aromatic ring that may have a substituent, Ar1, Ar2are aromatic ring groups that may have substituents, and X is a group 14-16 atom in a periodic table.
