The vibration damper (1) has a piston-cylinder unit (2) with an axially movable piston rod (4), which is encased by a protective tube outside a cylinder (3). The protective tube has bends for forming a bellows (7) of multiple folds, where one or multiple folds of the bellows are assigned to a circulating rigid radial bar (11), which is arranged within each fold and is firmly connected with the bend of the fold. The bellows is formed from plastic or co-polyester-elastomer.
