PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding material of a foamable phenolic resin giving a phenolic resin foam having particularly improved appearances, and favorable anticorrosive properties owing to its high pH, and further having dynamic performance, even with 35 kg/m<SP>3</SP>or less density, practically not causing problems compared to that of a foam having a standard density of about 40 kg/m<SP>3</SP>; and a phenolic resin foam using the molding material. SOLUTION: This molding material of a foamable resol type phenolic resin comprises a liquid resol type phenolic resin, a foaming agent, a foam stabilizer, an acid curing agent and an additive, where the additive is an aqueous solution of a nitrogen-containing crosslinking type cyclic compound with≥20 mass% concentration at which the compound is not recrystallized.
