<p>A wear sensor (12) comprises an electric circuit (58) supported on a substrate (50). The circuit (58) comprises a plurality of discrete elements (56) which are coupled in parallel with each other across conductive rails (52) and (54). The circuit (58) is electrically connected with a measuring device (38). The measuring device (38) measures an electrical characteristic of the circuit (58) such as resistance. The sensor (12) is disposed in or adjacent an object (20) which is subject to wear and wears with the object (20). As the sensor (12) wears, the elements (56) are sequentially decoupled from the circuit (58) thereby changing the characteristic measured by the device (38). This change provides an indication of the amount of wear of the object (20).</p> |
