<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a slot core which gives a satisfactory mechanical strength of the slot edge part of a slot groove and satisfactory transmission characteristic of an optical fiber which is housed in the slot groove. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the slot core 7 used for the optical fiber cable having the slot core 7 having one slot groove 5 for housing the optical fiber is manufactured, a hollow slot core 17 is manufactured by extrusion molding in a state that the slot groove 5 is made hollow, a connecting wall part 15 which blocks the open part 13 of the slot groove 5 is provided, the connecting wall part 15 is positioned downward in the cross section vertical to the longitudinal direction of the slot core 7, and notch parts 19, cut into the thickness direction of the connecting wall, are formed on both sides in the width direction and along the longitudinal direction of the slot core 7, and at the exit of a die immediately after the extrusion molding process, the connecting wall part 15 between both sides of notched parts 19 is torn beginning at the notched parts 19 under its own weight, thus the open part 13 of the slot groove 5 is formed.
