PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of accurately detecting a displacement amount of a cutting tool with respect to a workpiece to accurately correct a working position. SOLUTION: A turret gauge 46 comprises an invar body 47 and a gauge body 48 having a different thermal expansion ratio. An A point of the gauge body 48 and a tip 47A of the invar body are imaged in one view at initial setting time and at a time of a calibration cycle (CS), and image data are compared with one another to detect temperature of the gauge body 48. A length between the A point and a B point of the gauge body 48 at a time of CS is derived from the image data. This actual length is compared with a theoretical length between the A point and the B point at the temperature of the gauge body 48 at a time of CS, so that a thermal displacement amount of a ball screw can be accurately detected and displacement of the working position of the cutting tool can be accurately corrected, which is resulted in improvement of working accuracy of the workpiece.
