PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly enhance the rigidity of a steering column for tilt adjustment or telescopic adjustment. SOLUTION: A pair of clamp members 12, 12 is provided inside a lower side outer column 4 to hold an upper side inner column 3. This pair of clamp members 12, 12 is moved by a clamping bolt 13 to mutually approach for holding and clamping the upper side inner column 3 by the pair of clamp members 12, 12. Since the upper side inner column 3 is constituted to be directly clamped by the lower side outer column 4 in such manner, rigidities of both the columns 3 and 4 can be enhanced.
