<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicate-based yellow-green phosphor having high emission intensity. <P>SOLUTION: A new phosphor system is expressed by formula A<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Eu<SP>2+</SP>D, where A is at least one divalent metal selected from a group consisting of Sr, Ca, Ba, Mg, Zn, and Cd; and D is a dopant selected from a group consisting of F, Cl, Br, I, S and N. In one embodiment, the new phosphor is expressed by formula (Sr<SB>1-x-y</SB>Ba<SB>x</SB>M<SB>y</SB>)<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Eu<SP>2+</SP>F, where M is one of Ca, Mg, Zn or Cd in an amount satisfying a range of 0<y<0.5. The phosphor is configured to absorb visible light from a blue LED, and luminescent light from the phosphor and light from the blue LED may be combined to form white light. The new phosphor can emit light at intensity greater than either conventionally known YAG compounds or silicate-based phosphors that do not contain a dopant ion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
